How do we determine the prices?

Our chosen unit reference for film the ‘meter’. Length in minutes can vary depending on the camera speed. 8mm and super-8 films are projected at different speed: 14 fps., 16 fps., 18 fps., 24 fps., etc. That's why we have chosen meters rather than minutes. The length of your films can usually be read on the film reel. As for the video transfer, it is measured in minutes or hours.

When the sound film is transferred frame-by-frame, sound can obviously not be transferred at the same time. We re-transfer the film in “real-time” to capture the sound and then synchronize it with the frame-by-frame transfer. Additional cost for this is CHF 0.50 per meter of sound film.

When your films arrive at the Opus Video Lab, they are inspected and systematically cleaned. We add a film leader, if necessary.

The Meter of Film

Film duration is sometimes hard to evaluate because it depends on the format and the speed.

That’s why we charge per meter of film. Film length can usually be read directly on the reel.

You can measure the diameter of your reels.

7,5cm - 15 m of film
10,0cm - 30 m of film
12,5cm - 60 m of film
15,0cm - 90 m of film
17,5cm - 120 m of film

Digitization, film restoration info

Digitization

We scan your films image per image using our digitization system, the same as used by “Academy of Motion Pictures Films Archives” in Hollywood, USA.

We obtain a crystal clear, sharp reproduction of the original, without flicker, nor “hotspot”.

Hard Disk

Do you wish to edit your films using your favorite film editing software? We can deliver the films on an external hard disk.

The hard disk must be in NTFS format.

Attention:
We recommend this option for those who have high computer skills and preferably are qualified in video editing. One should be aware of the different video file formats, compression, and difference between various video files, such as .avi,. mpg, .mpe, .mpeg, .m2v, etc.

When this option is chosen, we deliver the AVI file without editing.
